M : Then you have to pay your resident tax to the city or town where you live on New Year's Day. But the amount of tax you have to pay depends on your income and deductions.
Mr. Dodge : When do I start paying resident tax? I've been in Japan about three months now.
Mr. Nishitani : For your first year here, you don't have to pay local taxes. You pay your first local tax in June of the first calendar year after the year you came to Japan.
Ms. Opitz : I am going back to my country in July. What should I do about my taxes?
Ms. Kobayashi : You must pay any remaining tax bcfore you leave. If you can't, you should give us the name and address of a person who will pay it for you.
